3 Pistes 2015

Hello All,

It’s only 2 weeks since 600 of you conquered the 3 Pistes Cycle Sportive. It feels like ages ago. Well done and thank you for all the kind feedback you have given us.

The provisional date for 2015 is either Sunday 31st May or Sunday 7th June. We want to make sure it doesn’t clash with any other big Scottish cycling events or RockNess / UCI Fort William so we will confirm the date in August. Entry will open in late August / early September

All 2014 riders will be given the opportunity for priority entry at a discounted rate similar to this year’s cost. Everyone else will have to pay a bit more. 😉

If you haven’t already seen it have a look at this wee GoPro video of the ride. Donate some money to Help For Heros if you can.

Ride 3 Pistes for free next year

Stirling Cycle Repairs have written a lovely ride report on their news page.

http://www.stirlingcyclerepairs.co.uk/index.php?page=news

The Lecht was up next and was by far the hardest climb on the day. 20% gradients in places. I also wasn’t in the right frame of mind for it because on the first part of the climb which seemed to go on for ever I met Liam Thomson, who is the cyclist who wrote the entertaining review of the route on the build up to the event. What a nice fella he is, but Liam, if you are reading this, no there is not a feed station at the top of that section! Having realised I was going to wait a little longer for food than I had set my heart on, I plodded on with the climb.

Erm… I think your blood sugar level might have been way too low or you were way too fast. We did have a feed station at the top of the Lecht. It’s just that the first dozen or so riders sped past it without noticing so the team moved it closer to the summit. Sorry you missed the grub.

Anyway, we loved reading your ride report and we want to read more reports.

The best 3 ride reports posted onto our FaceBook page before the end of June will each receive a pair of free entries with coach transfer to 3 Pistes Sportive 2015.

3 Pistes Cycle Jerseys

We have enough interest to set up another order for 3 Pistes Cycle Jerseys. As with the original order you will order and pay direct for your tops via Champs Sys. 3 Pistes makes no money from the production / sale of these tops.

All the orders will then get delivered to the 3 Pistes team.

What we want you to do is send us a stamped addressed envelope and once we get the jerseys delivered we will forward them to you.

Watch this space for ordering details.

My favourite two which were emailed through are:

Just wanted to say a big thanks for organising the event. Got into cycling about 18 months ago and this was my first sportive!
It was an absolutely fantastic day. Really well organised. The helpers at the feed stations & along the route were so friendly and helpful from the young girls desperate to offload their gels & bananas at Nethy Bridge (I ended up taking a couple that I really didn’t want/need and shoving them in my pockets) to the lady with grey hair that I must’ve seen cheering us on at at least 4 different points along the route including directing us at a sharp left turn. I’m presuming she got in a car or van in and wasn’t overtaking me on her push bike in between times although I wouldn’t have put it past her.
Anyway it was an amazing day so thanks again for organising. Hope you can do it again!
Best wishes
David

Just wanted to say a humungous thanks to you guys for organising one of the best days I’ve ever had on the bike.
Absolutely. F***ing. Brilliant!!!
Awesome route, great signage, flawless organisation and support – everyone was uber-helpful/cheery/supportive. (How you swung the weather, I’ll never know, but it was mighty impressive nonetheless!)
Chapeau!
Thanks again.
Alex

Plans are already afoot to do it all again next year and to also hold either a Team Time Trial, or possibly Road Race, over the route on the same day. That will take a lot of effort and logistical / bureaucratic nonsense with Local Authorities.  Fingers crossed.

Anyway back down to earth… many of you have been asking about the possibility of purchasing extra 3 Pistes Cycle Jerseys.  If there is enough demand we will open up an order with Champs Sys.

Have a brilliant summer of cycling. The summer is going to be hectic for me with Grand Depart in Yorkshire then Triathlon and Road Cycling commentating duties the Commonwealth Games, then performing Whisky For Dafties at the Edinburgh Fringe.

We’ll get all the info about 3 Pistes 2015 to you before the end of September.

Awrabest,

Alan

3 Pistes Cycle Sportive 2015

I suppose we better do it again next year otherwise all these gels etc will go to waste and Mrs 3 Pistes doesn’t condone food waste. So provisionally pencil the last weekend in May and first weekend in June 2015 into your diary for round 2.

Entry details will be published sooner rather than later so keep an eye on here.

Help For Heroes video of 3 Pistes Cycle Sportive

Alsy Young did a brilliant job of filming the entire ride and editing it into a thrilling wee video. You might see yourself in it so watch it.

Please visit his Help For Heros Justgiving page  and donate a big bit or a wee bit.

Sadly on the day all I got to see was the Start, the A9 (it rained heavily on Drumochter!!!) and The Finish. This video makes up for not getting on the route.

Chapeau Allan Young. Cracking video.

GoPro cameraman Ewan was one of a dozen 3 Piste Cycle Sportive riders raising money to help fund specialist cancer treatment in NYC for our old school pal Peter.

For pete’s Sake 3 Pisters – Stuart out front, followed by Greig (blue), David (black) and Ewan (orange helmet).

Many of those cheering you along the route were their friends and family
