3 OFF PISTES Cyclocross Sportive – CRAZY IDEA?

The 2015 edition of the 3 Pistes Cycle Sportive is filling up nicely. If entries continue at this rate it looks like it will be full by mid February.

So, last week I was watching BBC Ski Sunday. Graeme Bell was taking part in La Patrouille des glaciers ski race from Zermatt to Verbier. I was drinking whisky and I thought… “could we do that in Scotland?” … probably not on skis unless we planned it at short notice, but we could do it on bikes.

I have been doing a lot of cyclocross riding this winter so why not try an off road – or off piste – version of the 3 Pistes ride?

So here’s the idea. Glenshee, The Lecht, Cairngorm using roads, land rover tracks and a small amount of footpath. You would be able to ride it on a CX bike or Mountain bike. There would also be a small amount of portage – that’s bike carrying / pushing.

Glen Avon from Tomintoul.

Upper Glen Avon track

Loch builg single track

Here’s a first draft of possible route.

Approx 35km road, 70km land rover track, 10km path.

There is no denying that I come up with crazy sadistic ideas, but is this something that appeals to you? Please jump on the facebook page and give me your thoughts. If you think it is a good idea then I will make it happen sometime late summer 2015.
