Final notes for Sunday’s 3 Pistes Cycle.

Rider notes

Hello 3 Pisters,

Sorry communication has been a bit haphazard this year, I’ve been mad busy with Loch loMAN Triathlon and making sure the all new Tour of the Highlands is ready for its first run this weekend. 200 crazy folk doing 107 miles the day before 3 Pistes and 111 the day after.

Most of you lot are old pros who have ridden 3 Pistes before so you know the drill and you’ll know it is a well oiled machine.

Sunday 29th May – The Classic 3 Pistes Cycle Sportive

Start HQ – Pitlochry High School, East Moulin rd, Pitlochry. PH16 5ET

Finish HQ – Cairngorm Mtn, Aviemore, Inverness-Shire PH22 1RB

Start 7am – 9pm

Emergency Contact Numbers

On Saturday we will post Key Event Contact Numbers for Broom, First Aid and Mechanics on website and Facebook. Please save these to your phone.

Registration

As per usual we give you two options for rego at Pitlochry High School,

Saturday – 1pm – 5pm

Sunday 8am – 8.45am

If you want to start the ride at 7am Sunday you must register on the Saturday. If you want to collect your numbers and timing chips on Sunday morning you cannot do so until 8am and thus you cannot start riding until immediately afterwards.

2014-08-30 08.19.51

Coach Transfer & Registration

If you are getting the Aviemore – start coach on Sunday morning we will again be doing your registration at the coach.

Coach pick is from the central car park of the MacDonald Highland Resort PH22 1PN.

Please park in the central car park, however as a courtesy to hotel residents and guests please park away from the main entrance.

6am Check in & registration

6.15am Depart for Pitlochry – If you are late we will leave without you.

7.45am Arrive Pitlochry High School

In each rider’s registration pack will be a disposable timing chip and two event numbers  – 1 for bicycle, 1 for rider  – grab some pins. Before your bicycle is loaded onto one of the numbered trucks you must secure your number to the seat post of your bicycle. All riders must remove their pedals before loading onto the truck. Keep note of your truck number.

Our van team are experienced cyclists (we deliberately don’t get contractors in to do this) who all love their carbon steeds as much as you do yours. We will treat your bike as if it were our own… however if you are very, very precious about your paint work please bring an old dust sheet for us to drape over your bike.

On arrival in Pitlochry search out your truck, then our security team will match up your bicycle number with your bib number. After all of that you will ride off all happy and full of excitement.

Return coaches will leave Cairngorm Car Park at regular intervals from 3pm – 6.30pm

BAG DROP SYSTEM

Put your kit bag with change of clothes in the bag drop van and we will transport it to the finish.

We will provide you with a luggage label. Ensure it is securely fastened and please clearly write your ride number on it.

FEED STOPS

We pride ourselves in overstocking the feed stops with yummy goodies. There will be plenty of bananas, high 5 gels, water, powder for drinks, Aussie bites, flap jacks, chocolate bars, soreen, pretzels and whatever else we like the look of in Costco.

48km – Glenshee Ski Centre– Full Feed Stop & Toilets

96km – Corgarff– Full Feed Stop & Toilets

102km – The Lecht Ski Centre– Full Feed Stop & Toilets

135km – Nethy Bridge Hotel– Full Feed Stop & Toilets

GROUP RIDING

We will allow you to start in groups of no more than 20 riders every 2 minutes. You will almost immediately spread out on the climb over Moulin Moor. Most of the route features key trunk roads through the Scottish Highlands which are wide enough for overtaking. Please be courteous to your fellow road users. It is perfectly legal for you to ride in pairs. Please DO NOT ride more than 2 abreast EVER. When the road narrows (particularly first road over Moulin to A93 & at Gairnshiel) please allow other road users to pass safely.

SAFE DESCENDING

Most of the downhills are wide and fast. The A93 drop from Glenshee will see many of you hit your maximum speed for a prolonged period. Stay below the National Speed Limit and don’t draft cars!

Steep sections and bends will be well signposted and road marked.

BROOM WAGON & MECHANICS

We will have 2 mobile mechanics and 2 broom vehicles following the course. They will also be at the start for any last minute tinkering. We will also have a static mechanic at Glenshee. Once riders are through he will then zoom on to Corgarff.

DAY 2 GPX http://www.mapmyride.com/gb/pitlochry-sct/three-pistes-challenge-route-320662845

The Classic 3 Pistes Cycle Sportive

Pitlochry – Glenshee – The Lecht – Cairngorm

The route will be well signed. With the exception of Tomintoul every turn is left.

Experience has shown us that you are all sensible riders and that it is better for us to have our marshals mobile, so do not expect junctions to have marshals. This is not a closed road event, none of you are Steven Kruijswijk so take your time, obey the highway code and be courteous to other road users.
